South Canterbury to have world class eventing venue
An historic South Canterbury farm near is set to become home to a new, $250,000 world class equestrian eventing venue.
For more than a decade South Canterbury North Otago (SCNO) Eventing has been without a local course, following the closure of the Cannington grounds .
Riders from pony club right through to Federate Equestre International (FEI) level have since had to travel considerable distances for competitions. That will soon no longer be the case, with a new course set to be built at Craigmore Station, about 20 minutes drive from Timaru.
The new course is expected to cost about $250,000, SCNO Eventing group spokeswoman Sara Rowley said.
Craigmore Station is owned by UK-based Bridget and Forbes Elworthy, who have come to a land agreement with the Equestrian Sports New Zealand (ESNZ), of which SCNO Eventing is a regional body of, Rowley said.
